Vintage Summary
The Clare Valley experienced nearly perfect conditions overall, resulting in another excellent vintage for 2022. Consistent winter rainfall brought the vines out of dormancy and into bud burst with the soil profile full of moisture. An official La Nina weather event followed by a cooler, wetter spring produced good canopy growth despite some minor frosts in October.
Flowering from late November through to early December during a settled weather period established an excellent fruit set and an above average crop size. Healthy rainfall over the summer helped the vines through veraison, and it remained dry for the bulk of the harvest, resulting in one of the biggest crops since 2017.
Winemaking
Our Clare Valley Shiraz parcels were individually harvested by mid April. The fruit was destemmed and a warm fermentation followed with regular cap movement, to help extract colour and flavours from the skins. The wines were pressed off once the right balance of fruit
and tannins were achieved. After aging, the wine was then blended, stabilised, and bottled.
